Michael Turner

Throughout a turbulent childhood, Michael Patrick Turner used art as a means of escape and as a private source of peace. Now, as an adult artist, he also has the prospect of supporting himself with his work. Michael has experimented with various media, but while participating in an art group at the Oak Table Ministry, he became fascinated with encaustic painting, a medium with origins in ancient times that layers together hot beeswax, resin, and pigment. Now Michael works almost entirely in encaustics, and his bright and complex abstract images have received favourable attention while on display at the Tara Davis Studio Boutique in the Winnipeg Exchange District this year. Michael would be the first to admit that life is not yet easy. However, art continues to bring him peace and now provides an outlet for his creativity that helps him keep going. “I give thanks to our Creator for this gift,” he adds.
