Mark was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1957. He attended the University of Manitoba School of Art in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He subsequently developed his unique and idiosyncratic four-line hatch approach to illustration.
Mark describes his richly textured and layered works as “metaphor for space and mass.” The four lines represent “duality, the four elements, as well as a representation of self.” The influence of local legend Bruce Head is evident in his work. Mark’s primary mediums while at Artbeat were oil and chalk pastel. Mark’s sense of humour shines through his work with vibrant colour and line.
